Postdoctoral Research Fellow
Barreiro
Olga received her PhD from the Department of Immunology at Hospital de la Princesa (Madrid, Spain) working on the role of endothelial adhesion receptors and cytoskeleton to promote leukocyte extravasation during inflammation. She complemented her background in vascular biology with specific training in a wide variety of imaging techniques, including spectroscopy and analytical microscopy, working at the Weizmann Institute (Rehovot, Israel), the San Raffaele DIBIT (Milano, Italy) and the University of California Irvine (CA). Then, Dr. Barreiro moved to the National Center of Cardiovascular Research (Madrid, Spain) for her first postdoctoral training  to study the interaction of skin-resident innate immune cells with vasculature using intravital imaging. During that period, she discovered a subset of perivascular macrophages that sample the blood stream and possess a key anti-inflammatory role in wound healing. In 2014, she joined the von Anrian lab as senior post-doc to study the intravascular function of effector and effector memory CD8+ T lymphocytes during their fight against acute viral infections.
